The estate and the wine |
In the northern reaches of Alsace, Mélanie Pfister is devoted to creating wines of exceptional finesse—wines that are expressive, soulful, and crafted for fine dining. Her 10-hectare estate, awarded two stars by the French wine guide RVF, draws out the full character of its limestone soils, capturing their every nuance. Through biodynamic practices, she produces standout wines that have earned their place on some of the most prestigious tables.
Having trained with legendary estates such as Méo-Camuzet, Cheval Blanc, and Zind-Humbrecht, and armed with a degree in oenology, Mélanie Pfister approaches her work with steadfast pragmatism and a deep respect for the environment. The estate follows massal selection, nurtures its soils with great care, and embraces sustainability at every level: from tracking its carbon footprint and using green energy to choosing lighter, more compact glass bottles and managing water use with precision. Every decision is thoughtful and deliberate, ensuring nothing is wasted and everything serves a purpose. |

A blend of four grape varieties—Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer—the 2023 white Mel from Alsace opens with beautifully nuanced fruit aromas, expressive yet never overpowering. Delicate notes of rose, jasmine, and bergamot unfold gracefully over a subtle mineral backdrop, while the palate echoes and extends this refined aromatic profile. The wine is generous and lively, carried by bright energy, fine, elegant bitterness, and a lovely finish that lingers on bergamot. Awarded 93/100 by the Selection Committee. |
