A landmark of the Middle Ages and a stunning example of Cistercian art, the Sainte-Marie de Valmagne Abbey was once among the richest in southern France. It also boasts one of the oldest vineyards in the Languedoc, established by monks back in 1139.

Now owned by the d’Allaines family and officially designated a Historic Monument, this remarkable estate continues the tradition with energy and passion. Farmed organically, it offers an irresistible collection of wines that highlight generous ripe fruit aromas and a deliciously approachable style.

Led by the smoky character of Syrah, which makes up 60% of the blend, and the floral, peony-like lift of Grenache, the 2023 Languedoc Portalis Red opens with beautifully refined, complex aromas. The palate is equally impressive, offering dense, fleshy, concentrated flavours framed by well-integrated tannins that bring structure without heaviness, all carried by a remarkable freshness. This is a wine with excellent ageing potential, perfect alongside flavourful dishes such as lamb, beef, or even game. Selected as a favourite by the Selection Committee and rated 93/100.
