Wine:

The flagship wine of Clos Rougeard, sourced from 15 parcels of clay-limestone soil, the 2019 Red Saumur-Champigny asserts itself with power and concentration. In this outstanding Loire Valley vintage, Cabernet Franc reached perfect ripeness while retaining remarkable freshness. The wine unfolds with the effortless grace of the grape variety—well-structured, with a velvety mid-palate that gives way to a more tightly woven finish. Decanting will allow it to fully express its depth and complexity.

Vinification:

Hand harvested. 15 clay-limestone plots in Saumur-Champigny. Gentle vinification with a minimalist approach. Matured for more than 2 years in barrels and aged in bottles for several years in the heart of the tufa cellars, seven metres underground.

Certified organic wine.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C in a large glass.

Food and wine pairing:

Country-style mushroom terrine, grilled or roast beef, duck aiguillettes with green pepper, lamb chops marinated in Espelette chilli pepper.

Cellar aging:

From today until 2031, and even longer for enthusiasts.

The undisputed pinnacle of the region, Clos Rougeard, crowned with 2 stars by the prestigious French wine guide RVF (Revue du Vin de France), will forever be linked to Charly and Nady Foucault, the craftsmen behind its legendary status. Pioneers of organic farming as early as the 1970s, the Foucault brothers put the Loire Valley on the world map, proving just how powerful the Saumur-Champigny terroirs can be — and their capacity to produce truly great wines.

For wine lovers, names like Le Bourg, Le Clos, and Les Poyeux ring out like a perfectly tuned chord — a stunning expression of Cabernet Franc on these soils of silica, limestone, and sand. Rarer still, a White is produced from just 1.5 hectares on the limestone grand cru of Brézé.

Clos Rougeard is now owned by the Bouygues family, who have faithfully carried the torch — and the wines remain as highly sought-after as ever.
