Our committee's review

Clos de la Barthassade is reshaping the Languedoc wine landscape. For the past few vintages, Hélène and Guillaume Baron have been captivating the Terrasses du Larzac with wines that shine with vibrant fruit character.

Their 13 hectares, spread across the finest plots of the appellation—from Montpeyroux and Saint-Saturnin to Jonquières—are farmed biodynamically with meticulous care. Drawing on experience in Burgundy with Sylvain Pataille and time at Trévallon, the couple crafts wines that are light on the palate, impressively fresh, and bursting with expressive flavor.

This single-vineyard wine is a true tribute to the remarkable terroirs it hails from—a passionate ambassador for the Larzac. It’s also a personal favorite of Olivier Poussier.

The 2023 Terrasses du Larzac Les Ouvrées Red offers a beautifully nuanced expression of its terroir. Aged for nearly two years in large oak casks and demi-muids, it opens with a lush burst of ripe fruit—especially candied cherry. Its generous, fleshy profile still shows some influence from the ageing, but remains refined and beautifully balanced, with depth, structure, and a long, silky finish. This is an elegant, full-bodied wine with real aging potential—at least 10 years in the cellar. Awarded a score of 94/100, it's a Selection Committee favorite.
