A defining figure of Burgundy, respected by all, Nicolas Potel achieved the rare feat of taking the Bellene group — both estate and négociant — to the highest level, following the sale of his family estate, Domaine de la Pousse d’Or.

A true free spirit, he championed a form of viticulture free from dogma, but always guided by precision. His wines were graceful, aromatic, and deep, marked by full ripeness and effortless elegance.

The two wines we’re offering today are among the most sought-after on our site — a clear reflection of his style and talent.

His sudden passing has deeply moved us. Nicolas was more than a long-standing partner — he was part of the VALAP family.

Bursting with freshness, the 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes Red opens gently with a beautifully perfumed nose of rose petals, lifted by refined, discreet ageing. On the palate, it’s perfectly balanced — elegant, juicy, tangy, and full of flavour, with striking finesse. Such freshness, such complexity! A brilliant bottle that will reward another 2 to 3 years in the cellar. A Selection Committee favourite, rated 94/100.
